The 7th Athens Street Pole Vault International Meeting took place where the first edition of the event took place: in front of Zappeion which was the first building to be erected specifically for the revival of the Olympic Games in the modern world.
Since 2013, the CR was 5,83m. by Otto. Piotr Lisek (POL) cleared now 5.84m. and right after was very close to pass the 6,00m. barrier.
The two top-level greek athletes were 2nd (Karalis) and 3rd (Filippidis).
At 5.71m, which is the norm for Doha2019, Kostas Filippidis didn’t pass, while Emmanuel Karalis (who did the standard during indoor season) passed it with the third attempt.
Karalis tried after at 5,84m. without success and after his last attempt he pulled his bib by pointing the back side where he had written “EQUALITY”.
The event attended also Mr. Christos Papanikolaou, former WR holder with 5,49m in 1970.
