For the 4th time in a row, Katerina Stefanidi won the womens PV event in Diamond League series! The last competition (14th & 2nd final) of the 10th edition was held in Brussels’ King Baudouin Stadium, which will not host any competition for the next 2 years due to reconstruction.
In cold conditions, Stefanidi started successfully at 4.63m. and then cleared in her first attempt both 4.70m. and 4.77m. Newman and Sidorova passed that height too – the US athletes didn’t go so far.
The bar was raised to 4.83m. where Stefanidi did it also at her first attempt while Sidorova in her third and Newman failed. Sidorova failed to pass 4.88 in all of her attemtps and Stefanidi twice – didn’t manage a third one as the game was over.
“I´m really happy with this victory. Before the competition I thought that it would be possible to win, but I thought that it was going to be harder. When the pressure is on, I´m normally at my best. It was really cold here tonight, and people say that it will be the complete opposite in Doha … but I´m affraid that they will make it too fresh in the stadium.”
